1. Put the players in positions to succeed

2. Prove to them that they are an important piece of the group

3. Be honest and shoot them straight with what you see, right or wrong. 

4. Build Trust. Do what you say you are going to to do and be consistent.

5. Players want to be coached. Coach them to maximize their ability. That is what they want. 

6. Establish a leadership committee where players can air their concerns. Follow through on these concerns as a way to minimize distractions. 

7. Take the blame for putting players in poor spots. 

8. When the players put the work in, he treats them with respect.
